Hi all!
Just a quick note in case anyone has connections! We need a place to stay in Chicago on May 3rd & 4th. And it looks like I need a new road partner (w/car) for June trip to the west coast (see 'Routes' page for approximate routing). My backup plan is to go via Amtrak but prefer via car w/a (female) buddy! Let me know if you have any ideas! Will keep you updated. 3 days to go!!

5 Days 'Til Take-off!
Well. I betcha those of you I've been talking to about this thought this day would never come. I really can't believe it myself. Still not quite sure why I'm doing it, but it's in my blood, this dream now, and I can't get free of it. I must give it a try. I'm putting this blog up because there are a number of people who WANT to do something like this but won't, who are hoping to live vicariously through me, and have bothered me to do this or a book or somesuch nonsense. Or just friends/family who are curious to follow along. I do not plan to write a book - my reaction was, "Ach! It's already been done." There are far too many travel books in the world already. And blogging whilst I travel the country and try to stay in touch also w/my dear new boyfriend seems an extra chore in my mind, and yet, the road to making this trip (these 2 trips) happen has been rather remarkable, and there may yet be more remarkable things to come. Things worth sharing that might be more than tiny Facebook statii can communicate.
However, I really want to experience this trip, not spectate it. So I make no grand promises save one - to create this now as a treasure chest, and to put treasures in it now and then (maybe every day, maybe once a week, depending on my fancy) for you to pick up, turn over, and think about. May this all stretch you as it stretches me, and teach us to grow up as we trust our dreams and follow them to the best of our faltering abilities until we stride out strong and confident in what we are becoming.
